Divorce & Family Law

Divorce and Ancillary matters such as contact and financial settlement require a degree of skill and understanding which comes with training and experience; financial implications of divorce such as Maintenance Lump Sum Orders, Property Adjustment Orders and Pension Sharing can be complex as well as stressful, we understand that. We support our Clients but will give objective advice working towards the best outcome for them. 
Costs: Our costs are charged at £250.00 plus VAT of £50.00 per hour plus any disbursements. Our average fee for obtaining a Divorce is in the region of £600.00 plus VAT of £120.00 and the Court Fee, currently £612.00. This does not include any financial ancillary matters which are charged separately, client’s will be advised of future costs in relation to this, but the average cost of  financial settlement ranges from £1,700 plus VAT and disbursements if agreement can be reached and settled by consent. If not, the cost range from £2,500.00 plus VAT and disbursements.

Wills & Probate

A Will if wrongly prepared, not only does it fail to carry out the Testator’s wishes but could increase the costs of the Estate Administration. The benefits of a properly considered and written Will (no matter how simple) can avoid legal complications later and give Clients and their families’ peace of mind.
Costs for obtaining Probate:
Our hourly rate is £250.00 plus VAT of £50.00 per hour. The average costs of obtaining Probate are £600.00 plus VAT of £120.00 plus the Probate Application Fee (currently £300.00 for estates over £5,000.00) there will also be a small fee payable to swear an Oath, this is usually £5.00 plus £2.00 for any additional documents.
However, if the estate is large or complex the cost could be more but as soon as we know what sort of estate we are dealing with a 
revised quote will be given, for example if the IHT form is complexed and requires additional time to prepare it.
Costs for administering the Estate: 
The average costs for administration of an estate is £2,500.00 plus VAT plus any disbursements. This will of course depend largely on the size and complexity of the Estate. Therefore a more accurate estimate of costs will be given once we have taken the client's full instructions.

Criminal Law

Lofthouse & Co offer representation on a private client basis.
Costs:
For a guilty plea (concluded in one hearing) the costs will be £500.00 plus VAT. If the matter goes to a second hearing (i.e. sentencing hearing) an additional £500.00 plus VAT will be incurred.
For a Trial:
Most Trials have an Initial Hearing the costs will be £400.00 plus VAT
The Trial Hearing (usually one day) £900.00 plus VAT on top of the Initial Hearing Fee (costs include all preparation).
Although Criminal Law was at one time a major element of the firm, we no longer offer assistance paid for by Legal Aid. In the event that a potential client maybe able to benefit from Legal Aid, Lofthouse & Co can and would suggest firms who do Legal Aid work.
